OMG, that quilt is totally basted (and some news)

I took my first steps to this song, which I think is a pretty propitious start to this whole ambulating business. Who would be content to crawl when there are jams like that playing? I recently regressed a good 24 years or so, and was inching along the floor on my hands and knees, and here’s why:

quilt quilt
I have been working on this quilt for well over a year, I finished sewing the top together months ago, and have been ignoring it ever since. Since we had such a rainy June, I decided to finally give it the tlc it deserves. When making a quilt, before you can begin quilting (or sewing the layers together with pretty little stitches) you need to stretch each layer out, and then sew them together with big ugly stitches. You need space to do that, and a clean floor (notice the couch in the hallway in pic #1). I wish I had seen these vidoes before beginning. I might have had my living room back a day or two earlier and would have saved myself a lot of knee and back ache.

basting
I found a job! Which is why I’ve been so absent from this blog. I’m monging cheese, hawking havarti, trading in tagleggio. It’s a great gig, I’m learning lots about cheese (and eating a lot too), unfortunatley I’m afraid this poor quilt is going to be neglected again. Maybe I can finish it by the fall?
